The documentary “Cutting Through Rocks” illuminates the life of Sara Shahverdi, a 37-year-old former midwife from Iran, who has made a name for herself as a passionate civil rights activist and motorcyclist after her divorce. She won a local choice by an overwhelming majority, became the city councilor and has been committed to the rights and concerns of her community since then.

The film, which is deliberately directed against patriarchal structures, was premiered on Monday (January 27th) as part of the selection of ‘World Cinema Documentary’ at the Sundance Film Festival 2025. Project comes from Karim Sebastian Elias (“Kudamm ’63”, “Gerdas silence”, “Faruk”).

KS Elias and the makers of “Cutting Through Rocks”

The busy film composer has long been known. Among other things, he worked on the setting of the ZDF series “The Second Welle” and is particularly proud of the small film project.
