In the DFB Cup, the opponents have so far tried unsuccessfully to conquer the “Bielefeld Alm”. Before the quarter -finals against Werder, the DSC Arminia Bielefeld dreams of the next coup.
If the East Westphalia triumphs against Bremen on Tuesday (8:45 p.m.), they would be in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup for the first time in ten years, where they had no chance against the later cup winner VfL Wolfsburg in 2015 (0: 4). With a quarter -final exception in 2017 (0: 1 against Eintracht Frankfurt), the Arminia has always been two final stop in round at the latest. Now they only separate two victories from the first final in the club’s first final.
Doesn’t the fortress “Bielefeld Alm” fall?
On the way there, the home advantage could become a decisive factor. In the current cup season, the Bielefeld Alm comes a bit like modern, fubal Gallic village – no matter who was a guest of higher -class clubs, no one has successfully returned from Westphalia. The “conquest of the Alm” mission always became a failure. Anyone who keeps it with the Westphalia will now hardly miss the fourth attempt to conquer a large club.
Or maybe put it better: all of you who are inclined to the Arminia want to be there when your club starts again to uprising David’s against the Goliath. “Everyone is hot for this game. With the stadium in the back we can go over our pain threshold,” says coach Mitch Kniat to the atmosphere in the long -sold -out stadium.
We want to enjoy this moment. We may never experience something like that.

Already beaten three larger clubs
But this fairytale, soccer -romantic narrative of the Gallic village does not begin with the game in the quarter -finals against Werder – as a third division, the DSC always had home rights in the previous rounds. In the first attempt, Hannover 96 failed due to the conquest of the arena. The second division team was sent home 2-0.
Union Berlin did not break through the wall “DSC defense” either: the East Germans pulled out of then without a goal and with two net impacts. SC Freiburg finally managed the shot to the Arminia network, but the guests also collected the ball three times from their own goal to the kick -off.
So far, DSC heroes were Oppie, Kania or Becker
The heroes of this fantastic fairy tale story are called Louis Oppie – with two long -distance gates – or Christopher Lannert, who was also allowed to cheer against Freiburg after a distinct goal. Or André Becker, who already scored twice in the trophy.
By the way, the fairy tale has already ended at Becker: the scorer of the first two cup rounds no longer storm for the DSC, but for Waldhof Mannheim since winter. The other striker, who has been successful in the cup, is called Julian Kania. His goal to 2-0 against SC Freiburg paved the way to the quarter -finals.
New storm duo as the next fairy tale protagonist?
Kania is also the most successful scorer of the DSC in the 3rd league. He was allowed to celebrate a goal eight times – and yet he usually only sits on the bench. It will probably be like that against Bremen. Because in winter, Joel Grodowski and Roberts Uldrikis came two new attackers. Both met against 1860 Munich on the last match day and showed a strong performance.
We know that everything has to fit with us again and at best not at the opponent.
Arminia’s coach Mitch Kniat
At Uldrikis, Kniat primarily appreciates his ability to determine balls in the third of the attack. This could become more important than ever if you look at what the tactics of the Arminia will look like: strong defensive and good counterattack. There is someone in the storm center that stipulates balls, a central component. For the highlight game, Kniat sets the direction of the march: “We don’t go into the game to enjoy it, but to win.”
The time for the next defense of the Gallic village “Bielefelder Alm” and the plan to move back into the semi -finals for the first time since 2015 seems to be quite cheap anyway. Werder has received eleven goals in the past three defeats, with the Bundesliga club particularly desolate in the 0: 5 clap at SC Freiburg on the last match day.
Only two wins to Berlin?
Arminia captain Mael Corboz and Co. will certainly have dealt with the weakness of defense. It is your chance to continue writing DSC hero hero history. So that the Arminia fans in the semi -finals look forward to the next chapter at the “Bielefelder Alm” longing location – and can dream of a final. That would really be the impressive final act – albeit in a different place: with a final premiere in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
