At the end of March, Sophie Weidauer Werder Bremen shot the DFB Cup final with two goals-now it is clear: The attacker will leave the club after the season.

Striker Sophie Weidauer (23) has decided not to extend her expiring contract with the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. The club announced this on Monday. The German U23 national player will face a new challenge at the coming season.

“Of course, we very much regret that Sophie decided to leave Werder,” said Birte Brüggemann, head of the women’s football department, in the club announcement. “She developed into the team’s top performer and we would have loved to take the next step with her.” Werder did not provide any information about which club it draws.

The pasture was changed from Turbine Potsdam to the Weser in the summer of 2023. Since then she has played 45 competitive games for Bremen and scored 14 goals.

In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, she scored twice at the northern derby against HSV-before the record setting of 57,000 spectators in the Hamburg Volkspark Stadium. On May 1st, the pasture and Werder in the final in Cologne will deal with FC Bayern Munich.
