New album “smogstar” will be released in September
“smogstar”, the band’s fourth album, will be released on September 4th. In terms of content, the record moves between urban melancholy, the search for identity and the desire for reinvention. Culk describe a state between departure and being overwhelmed – between freedom, sensory overload and uncertainty.
The band is also opening up further musically: the new songs rely more heavily on raw dynamics, reduced arrangements and an immediate noise rock aesthetic, without giving up Culk’s typical hypnotic pull. References to guitar bands from the 80s and 90s meet the still central, poetic lyrics of singer Sophie Löw.
New single “broken speakers”
With “kaputte speakers” Culk recently released another harbinger of “smogstar”. The song talks about falling in love, summer restlessness and that brief moment when everything feels light and overwhelming at the same time.
Previously, “twenty, eighteen” was a look back at the early years of the band – including questions about friendship, orientation and constantly being on the move.
Eight years after their first releases, Culk appear as focused and at the same time open as rarely before on “smogstar”. The upcoming concerts should show how well the new songs work live, between power, intimacy and urban shimmer. For fans of shoegaze, post-punk and noise rock, autumn 2026 could hardly start in a more fitting way.
