Cubans Protest Continued Power Cuts After Hurricane Ian Passage | Abroad

Street protests have been held in Cuba for the third day in a row. After the passage of Hurricane Ian, the entire country was without power. The demonstrators believe that the repairs are going too slowly.

In the busy Linea street in the capital Havana, residents of the Vedado district erected a roadblock with garbage cans on Saturday evening. Several dozen demonstrators complained that they have been without electricity and running water for five days.

According to the authorities, repairs are underway. In the capital, more than 94 percent of families are said to have been reconnected.

It is too slow for the protesters. Some also demanded “freedom”. Later, supporters and opponents of the regime shouted slogans at each other. The police arrested at least one person.
