Crystal Palace part ways with manager Patrick Vieira

Winless in 2023

Patrick Vieira is no longer the manager of Crystal Palace. The Premier League club announced on Friday morning that it was separating from the 46-year-old, under whom there had been no win in eleven league games in the new year. Most recently, the “Eagles” scored three points against Bournemouth (2-0) on New Year’s Eve. In the international form table, only four teams from the top leagues have collected fewer points recently, including TSG Hoffenheim.

“We very much regret this difficult decision. Ultimately, the results of the last few months have put us in a precarious position and we felt a move was necessary to have the best chance of remaining in the Premier League,” said chief executive Steve Parish. Crystal Palace are twelfth in the table but only have a three-point lead over the relegation zone.

Patrick Vieira reached FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley with Crystal Palace

It continued: “That said, Patrick has made a significant contribution since joining us in the summer of 2021 and he is held in the highest esteem by me and all his colleagues. He led the side to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and a respectable 12th place last season with exciting football, which given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival, is a demanding and important challenge for the club was.”

For Vieira, Crystal Palace was his third men’s stint, having previously coached OGC Nice in France and New York City in the United States. He had surpassed the point average of 1.22 from 74 games in previous activities.
