The attachments to the church tower are beginning to rust and after inspection it became apparent that it would be safer to remove the cross, restore it and then reattach it to the tower. It is still unclear how long the restoration will take.
In addition, the wooden truss of the spire is also immediately inspected to see whether it is still intact.
If this is not the case, the entire spire may have to be removed. But deacon Steven Knockaert hopes that it does not have to come to this. A decision on this will probably be made during the day.
