Cross-country skiing live: Tour de Ski Toblach (ITA) 10km classic (women) in the live ticker | 12/31/2023 12:15 p.m

13:14

Stadlober in the top ten

Teresa Stadlober finished tenth. This is definitely a decent result for the Austrian, but the gap to the top is already considerable at just under a minute.

13:12

Strong DSV result

It wasn’t just Victoria Carl in second place who was convincing from DSV’s point of view today. Katharina Hennig can be completely satisfied with her fifth place after a break due to illness. Sprint expert Coletta Rydzek also delivered a good distance race in 16th place. Lisa Lohmann follows in 21st place, Pia Fink in 26th. Only Sofie Krehl and Laura Gimmler missed the top 30.

1:09 p.m

Overall ranking

After her great second place today, Victoria Carl is now in second place in the overall ranking of the Tour de Ski, just seven seconds behind the leader Jessie Diggins.

13:08

Svahn doesn’t come close

Another runner, the Swede Linn Svahn, was fairly promising, but Ribom can no longer come close to the podium times. The fact remains: Niskanen wins ahead of Carl and Diggins!

1:06 p.m

Carl races towards the two!

What a finish from Victoria Carl! The German flies over the last two kilometers, even takes six seconds off the leader Niskanen and checks in a strong second place behind the Finn!

13:04

Swedes disappoint

Top favorite Ebba Andersson, last year’s winner Frida Karlsson and Emma Ribom are all almost a minute behind the leaders at the finish. The strong Swedes certainly imagined it differently.

1:03 p.m

Diggins in front of Brennan

Jessie Diggins checks in and takes second place, just ahead of her teammate Rosie Brennan! This means Katharina Hennig is off the podium. Meanwhile, Victoria Carl still has every chance and is fighting for the podium. This is going to be very tight!

1:00 p.m

Carl and Diggins are still coming

Who can change the composition of the podium here? Victoria Carl and Jessie Diggins in particular still have their sights on the top three after eight kilometers. The German gave everything she had on the last climb and took a few seconds off the US runner.

12:58

Niskanen in front of Brennan and Hennig

Katharina Hennig lost a lot in the last few kilometers and only briefly took the lead at the finish before she was overtaken first by Brennan and then by Niskanen. The Finn has a whopping 15 seconds lead and therefore the best chance of winning the day.

12:55

Fähndrich and Stadlober have no chance

Austria’s Teresa Stadlober and Nadine Fähndrich, the best Swiss woman, are already half a minute behind at halftime.

12:54

Diggins and Carl

Jessie Diggins has also slowly found her flow and is within seven seconds of the lead again after five kilometers. Victoria Carl is doing even better, only 0.9 seconds behind the leader Rosie Brennan.

12:52

Niskanen flies away!

Wow! Kertuu Niskanen has obviously timed her race perfectly and is now making a lot of progress in the last few kilometers! After eight kilometers, the Finn has already distanced Rosie Brennan by twelve seconds, Katharina Hennig is another seven seconds behind.

12:50

Everyone on the track

With the Swiss Alina Meier, the last of the 67 starters has just set off. So in about half an hour we will finally know who won this race.

12:48

Carl is in the front, Hennig bites

Victoria Carl got off to a good start and is at the front after 1.7 kilometers. Meanwhile, Katharina Hennig is fighting her way back up to the leading duo Brennan/Niskanen on the climb.

12:46

Krehl at the finish

The first German runner has reached the finish. Sofie Krehl didn’t have her best day and is already over 50 seconds behind the currently leading Swede Sofia Henriksson. And there will easily be another minute added when the top runners check in.

12:45

Trio with Hennig in front at half time

The first 30 runners have now passed the halfway mark at five kilometers. The American Rosie Brennan is at the top, directly ahead of the Finnish Kertuu Niskanen. Katharina Hennig continues to do well and is currently third, nine seconds behind. Then there is already a big gap to Heidi Weng.

12:42

Diggins takes it slow

Jessie Diggins is also initially not on the same level as the leaders and loses over nine seconds in the first 1.7 kilometers. That doesn’t have to mean anything, but it’s still quite a lot. Because there is actually little to tactic at such a short distance.

12:39

Carl on the way

Now Victoria Carl has also started! After her coup in Trondheim today, will the German confirm her great form today?

12:37

Stadlober clearly back

Not much is going well with Teresa Stadlober either. After three kilometers, the Austrian was already 20 seconds behind. That shouldn’t work with a top result.

12:36

Andersson way back

This comes as a surprise! While Katharina Hennig and Rosie Brennan are almost level at the split time after 1.7 kilometers and, together with the Finn Kertuu Niskanen, are well ahead of the field, the Swede Ebba Andersson has already lost 12.8 seconds here.

12:34

Hennig starts quickly

While the four previously started Germans, Sofie Krehl, Lisa Lohmann, Laura Gimmler and Pia Fink, are all already well behind, Katharina Hennig starts her race quickly and completes the first 200 meters even faster than Rosie Brennan and Krista Pärmäkoski.

12:32

Norwegian woman in front

Kristin Austgulen Fosnæs from Norway took the lead after three kilometers and is currently five seconds ahead of the Italian Caterina Ganz. Meanwhile, Ebba Andersson, one of the absolute top favorites for today’s stage, has started her race. After she remained pointless in the jumper yesterday, Andersson has to deliver today in terms of the overall standings.

12:28

Challenging route

Today’s round is definitely tough. The women have to overcome two long climbs in which the first runners are already having problems.

12:26

Stadtlober on the way

Now it applies to Teresa Stadlober. The Austrian pushes herself energetically out of the starting box and is determined to underline her good form here. The Austrian goes onto the cross-country ski trail between the two strong Norwegians Lotta Udnes Weng and Heidi Weng.

12:24

Warning for Kälin

The Swiss Nadja Kälin received the first warning for technical improprieties early on.

12:23

First fragrance brand

At the intermediate time after 1.7 kilometers, Finnish Jasmi Joensuu was the first runner to stay under five minutes. However, we will still see some faster athletes today. Sofie Krehl is already 13 seconds away from the top.

12:20

The favorites

The two Americans Jessie Diggins and Rosie Brennan have a good chance of an overall victory on this tour. Diggins already won the event in 2021 and currently leads the overall ranking in the World Cup ahead of Sweden’s Emma Ribom. Their compatriots Linn Svahn and Ebba Andersson are also among the favorites.

12:16

Let’s go!

Anja Mandeljc from Slovenia is the first runner to set off and start the race. The first DSV athlete follows immediately, Sofie Krehl.

12:08

Fähndrich leads Switzerland

Nadine Fähndrich got off to a good start in the Tour de Ski 2023 in her flagship sprint discipline and earned a lot of bonus seconds in fourth place. She starts the race today with number 60. In addition to her, Nadja Kälin (3), Anja Weber (6), Giuliana Werro (47), Desiree Steiner (53), Lea Fischer (64) and Alina Meier (67) are also starting for Switzerland today.

12:00

Stadlober in good shape in time

Teresa Stadlober is once again a lone fighter in the Austrian team. The 30-year-old has been getting better and better lately and narrowly missed a podium finish in fourth place at the skiathlon in Trondheim. This year’s tour program with many demanding distance races suits Stadlober, who did not make it into the top 30 in the sprint. “I feel fit and am really looking forward to the tour. I really like and like this event and I can always motivate myself to do it,” said the Salzburg native.

11:54

Hennig not yet at 100%

Germany’s second top runner Katharina Hennig was unable to qualify for the top 30 in the spring. The Oberwiesenthaler traveled to Toblach after a corona infection with a lack of training and has not yet returned to top level. “We shouldn’t expect too much from her,” warned national coach Peter Schlickenrieder. In addition to Carl (start number 48), Rydzek (36) and Hennig (27), four other DSV women are taking part in today’s race: Sofie Krehl (2), Lisa Lohmann (8), Pia Fink (17) and Laura Gimmler (18).

11:48

Carl remains in good shape

After her sensational World Cup success in Trondheim, Victoria Carl also got off to a good start in Toblach and reached the semi-finals in the sprint. With her twelfth place, the 28-year-old was able to score a few bonus seconds for the overall ranking. Today, Carl is certainly rated as even stronger than in the sprint, especially since she was so outstanding over the ten kilometers in the classic last time in Trondheim. Coletta Rydzek even came in a strong seventh place in the jump, but today she probably won’t have as good a prospect as her teammate.

11:46

First distance race

After yesterday’s sprint start, today is the first distance race of this Tour de Ski over ten kilometers in the classic technique. It starts at 12:15 p.m.
