In Planica from 21. -23. January the cross-country skiers and Nordic combined athletes host their World Cup competitions. Due to the current acute development of the corona pandemic in Slovenia, the security of the actors involved in this major event cannot be guaranteed, according to an FIS notification.
In addition, a potentially growing number of infected and quarantined people would result in the basic service infrastructure no longer functioning.
No new venue set yet
After consultation with the health authorities, the Slovenian Ski Association and the LOC, it was decided to cancel the eight planned competitions, the FIS announced on Monday.
The rejection is particularly tough given the perfect conditions on the cross-country trails and the hill. Also because you would have offered an ideal stage for a test event. The Nordic World Ski Championships are to take place in Planica next year.
An alternative venue has not yet been determined.
