Andbeing sucked into another world: that of the exterminated pampas of Argentina of 2001. And relive the historical context of the time, that is the tremendous crisis that led to the bankruptcy of the country, discovering cheering for that unlikely group of protagonists fighting for justice to be done. It happens by seeing Criminals like us, film broadcast tonight on Rai 3 at 9.20 pm which, by combining irony and drama, history and fictional reality, gives joy and moments of reflection.
Criminals like us: the plot
We are, in fact, in theArgentina of 2001, the default is close. A group of friends decide to buy disused silos for found a cooperative and start an agricultural business, in the hope of putting his life savings to good use and maybe even give work to those who need it. It is about simple people and different from each other: there is the anarchist, the nostalgic for Peronism and the famous former footballer, who is now the owner of a gas station, and is the protagonist, Fermìn Perlassi (interpreted by Ricardo DarìnArgentine star who never fails in the most popular films of Buenos Aires, protagonist even at the last one Venice Film Festival with Argentina 1985).

With a thousand difficulties, the group manages to put aside the nest egg. But the naive Fermìninstead of investing everything, he is persuaded by a bank manager to deposit the money in the bank. The idea of stealing from the thief
At a certain point, however, the protagonist discovers that he has been scammed: the money has not been transferred abroad, as he thought, but the bank with the help of an unscrupulous lawyer, Fortunato Manzin (Andres Parra), hid them in a chauveau buried in the middle of nowhere. There are, not just the money’s Fermìn and his friends, but those of the whole rural community in which he lives Fermìnwhich was, in essence, robbed.
Angry and ready to avenge injustice, the group headed by Fermìn devises a plan: steal money from the thief. The idea is to find and open the chauveau and regain possession of the stolen goods. Too bad it’s not that easy since the safe has an alarm connected to the bank phone. With a spirit of initiative, a thirst for justice, this sort of “armada brancaleone” does everything to combat unjust power.

This film directed by Sebastián Borensztein (What rains from the sky?) won in 2020 the Goya Award, the Spanish Oscar, as Best Foreign Film. It is based on the novel by Eduardo Sacheri The night of the heroic losers, the original title is in fact The odyssey of the heroic losers (The odisea de los giles). Fast-paced, it looks like the proletarian version of Ocean’s 11.
