Create and use WhatsApp avatar – TECHBOOK

The popular messenger WhatsApp is planning – finally – a function to create your own avatar.

On many platforms it is now common practice to create a personalized avatar of yourself. This can then be integrated into a chat history, for example, as a sticker. While Facebook, for example, which also belongs to Meta, has had a corresponding function since 2020, this has not been the case for WhatsApp – until now.

The avatar function on WhatsApp

WABetaInfo reports on an avatar feature discovered by testers in the beta version of Messenger. This innovation should primarily please Android users. In the past, anyone who uses WhatsApp on an iPhone could create and use their own avatar using the corresponding Apple function.

The screenshots posted with the info are quite revealing. If you create an avatar on WhatsApp in the future, the messenger will automatically create a sticker package based on it. You can also set your avatar as your profile picture.

However, the function is currently in the beta phase. If you want to test it yourself, you can register as a WhatsApp beta tester. There is not yet a final release date when the function will be rolled out for all users

How to create an avatar on WhatsApp

Before you can use the digital mini-me on WhatsApp, you first have to create an avatar of yourself. To do this, go to the WhatsApp settings, where you select the “Avatar” option as one of the top menu items. You are then completely free in the design; the avatar can look like you or completely different. However, you can only store one version at first.

The messenger then generates several sets with the avatar, which can then be found in the chat under “Stickers”. The well-known emojis then appear animated with the face of the created character.
