Amber was voted the most beautiful cow in all of North Holland this afternoon. This happened during the Winter Show in Middenmeer, where dozens of livestock farmers came to show their most beautiful specimen in front of an expert jury.

The Winter Show took place in Middenmeer for the 34th time. A spectacle that attracted a lot of attention. Dozens of farmers from all over the province, but also from Friesland, for example, had come to the north of the province for the show.

This afternoon during the beauty pageant among the cows it was all about appearance. Everything had to be right: from legs to topline and from coat to udder. “I’d rather sit among the cows than on the football field,” says participant Stan Schilder. “We brush, we spray oil, spray black dots where the cow has damage and baby oil on the udders.”

‘It’s great that we have won prizes’

The winner was Merel Wijnker, a livestock farmer from Avenhorn. “This is what you do it for,” she says. “We work with our cows all year round. It’s great that we win prizes here.”

This morning the owner was very nervous, she says. “Amber is my own cow and everything has to go well. She has to be clean, eat well, walk well. We have been working on it for months. So yes, it couldn’t be better.”
