Court overturns 2G rule for retail in Baden-Württemberg

The Administrative Court of Baden-Württemberg has overturned the 2G rule for retail in the southwest.

The VGH announced on Tuesday in Mannheim that the freezing of alarm level II by the Corona regulation of the state government is likely to be illegal. This means that in retail, people with a current test can shop in stores again, in addition to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

After the 2G rule was repealed in Bavaria, retailers in Baden-Württemberg complained about the flow of customers to the neighboring federal state. In addition, it was feared that sales, which had already been reduced as a result of the applicable registration restrictions, would be reduced even further by a shift in purchasing power to Bavaria.

The repeal of the 2G rule by the Bavarian court was mainly based on a previously not clearly defined distinction between shops that help cover daily needs and are therefore exempt from the access restriction and shops that are subject to the stipulations of the 2G rule fall, said a spokeswoman for the State Ministry on Thursday. A correct implementation of the rule was therefore not guaranteed in Bavaria – which does not apply to the Corona regulation in Baden-Württemberg.

It was only last Thursday that the state government of Baden-Württemberg announced that there was no need for action regarding the 2G rule and that no changes would be made for the time being. Today, the Administrative Court of Baden-Württemberg overruled the 2G rule. As a result, the 3G rule for retail in the federal state applies again with immediate effect. (dpa/ Fashion United)
