Court apologies to man who was wrongly imprisoned for ‘flat murder’

After the Public Prosecution Service, the judiciary has now also apologized in writing to Rob Bodelier, who is the victim of a miscarriage of justice. It is regretted that Rob Bodelier was wrongly deprived of his liberty for a long time by successive court decisions.

That writes the Volkskrant. The letter, addressed to Bodelier’s lawyer Pieter van der Kruijs, was written and signed by the presidents of the District Court of East Brabant and the Court of Appeal in Den Bosch, the institutions that Bodelier wrongly convicted in 2004 and 2007. .

“What happened to your client is terrible,” the presidents wrote. “It is unimaginable how great the suffering is to be unjustly held responsible for this after a great personal loss. We are open to a conversation with him and you as his counsel, if necessary.”

Rob Bodelier was recently acquitted by the court in Arnhem of the so-called Rosmalense ‘flat murder’. He would previously have killed girlfriend Regie van den Hoogen. In 2008 he was sentenced to tbs with compulsory treatment. Bodelier has always said he was innocent.
