In the upcoming elections, Gemeentebelangen hopes to run for councilor with a local person. “In the council you often hear that people would like to see aldermen from their own municipality,” says Hooijer. “We think so too, hence the choice.”
Wind wants to find out what kind of work suits him. He does not necessarily rule out becoming a councilor elsewhere. In any case, he will continue to do his work for the municipality in the coming months.
He looks back positively on the past years: “I liked that I had a part in keeping insurer TVM in Hoogeveen. We were also able to work on housing construction plans, such as the project at Hoogeveen-Zuid.”
Hoogeveen-Zuid is a dossier that is regularly criticized. A maximum of 1,500 houses should be built on the south side of the A37. The municipality does not yet have the land, but wants to be the first to buy it with the pre-emptive right when it comes on the market.
Farmers and local residents in particular fear consequences for nature, but also that they will lose land. “I don’t necessarily find the criticism difficult,” Wind responds. “It is completely understandable that emotion is involved, but if you want to build you will have to take steps.”
He himself, together with the municipality, would have liked to accelerate a little more around the Tamboerpassage. Most shops have left. There were housing plans, but the developer pulled the plug. “That is a huge shame and makes the last pieces of the puzzle difficult to put together,” says the councilor.
“I also think it is a shame that we have not been able to create places for caravans more quickly in recent years. It remains difficult to find good locations, which are things that I am disappointed about.”
