ⓘ Ubisoft, Nintendo
Several Ubisoft games have already made their way to Nintendo’s handheld. Consequently, fans reacted with disappointment when the publisher announced that its latest title would not be released for the console. However, an insider has indicated that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced could make an appearance on the Switch 2.
Leak or Wishful Thinking?
Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly recently surprised fans by posting a packshot of the remake on social media. The significance of the image remains unexplained, sparking further speculation. While the insider has had a mixed success rate with predictions, his claims contradict official statements from Ubisoft.
A recently released free update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows included content that is also utilized in Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft has since clarified that Switch 2 owners will not have access to these items, as the remake “will not be released for Nintendo.”
It is not surprising that the title will not be launching on July 9th alongside PS5, Xbox, and PC. Titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws required extensive optimization to maintain 30 FPS on the console. The modernized pirate adventure poses even greater challenges for the hardware.
Challenges Facing the Switch 2
Although Black Flag Resynced features a smaller open world, porting it to Switch 2 may necessitate compromises in graphics. The redesigned graphics engine, boasting enhanced global lighting and intricate water effects, could place significant strain on the hardware. Nevertheless, developers have previously demonstrated that technical compromises are possible without severely impacting image quality.
Given financial difficulties, Ubisoft may have difficulty forgoing additional revenue streams. According to the publisher, the Switch 2 version of Shadows contributed to the Assassin’s Creed series performing better than expected in the third quarter of 2026. Ubisoft recently acknowledged that only a few major releases are planned for the foreseeable future, with Codename Hexe likely not arriving until 2027.
While Kiwi Talkz’s potential leak should be approached with caution, the positive reviews and strong sales on the platform offer Nintendo fans a glimmer of hope.
