It took quite some getting used to after a long journey from Slovakia to the Anna Paulownapolder, but the animals soon feel at ease, says zookeeper Shoshana Pijnenburg of the Lion Foundation. “Male cougar Ozzy loves the attention of his keepers. He likes to come to the fence to see what you are doing.”
“He likes to play. Balls are his favorite. He is friendly and curious and very easy-going.” Shanel, the female cougar needs a little more time to get used to it. “In the first few weeks she kept an eye on everything from a distance when the caregivers were there. But since a week she has also been showing good progress.”
Shanel is not very playful yet, but: “She eats well and occasionally she starts walking around when we are there and she likes it if you sit with her from a distance. We are proud that she is doing so well, because she was very withdrawn in Slovakia.”
