Coronavirus puts an end to the Vuelta for Boy van Poppel

The Vuelta is over for Boy van Poppel. The cyclist from Moergestel did not start on Thursday in the twelfth stage, because he tested positive for the corona virus.

On Wednesday, 34-year-old Van Poppel achieved his best performance in this Tour of Spain with tenth place in stage eleven. His brother Danny finished second behind Australian stage winner Kaden Groves.

Van Poppel, who plays for Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert, is one of the many participants who had to drop out due to corona. His Czech teammate Jan Hirt is also among the unlucky ones. The Dutchmen Daan Hoole and Wout Poels also dropped out with a corona infection.
