Coronation in the city derby: Flick and Barça are Spanish champions

The Catalans prevail in duel with Espanyol and make the early title gain perfect. The initial phase of the game is overshadowed by an incident.
Hansi Flick led FC Barcelona to the Spanish championship directly in his first year. The Catalans, coached by the former national coach, won the city derby near Espanyol on Thursday evening with 2-0 (0-0) and made the title win two game early before the end of the season. Barça superstar Lamine Yamal became once more a decisive man, Fermín López (90.+6), with a dream goal (53.).
At the same time, Flick also completed the double with Barcelona. At the end of April, the team had already won the Spanish trophy with a rousing 3: 2 after extra time in the final against Real Madrid. With the Supercup, which Barcelona also won against Real in January (5: 2), it is even title number three.
The initial phase of the game was overshadowed by terrifying pictures: Before the game, a car had driven into a crowd in front of the stadium. The game was then briefly interrupted (you can read more about this here).
After the interruption, Barça Lange struggled-but was once again able to rely on a stroke of genius by 17-year-old Yamal. His dream goal from around 17 meters into the goal angle initiated the victory and the 28th championship title from Barça. Record champion Real Madrid, who had already lost the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona at the end of last month, is at 36.
After a blow into the belly of Yamal, Espanyol professional Leandro Cabrera (80th) saw the red card due to assault. The gateway to the 2-0 final score in added time was also very worth seeing.
For Flick it is the first championship title abroad. With FC Bayern Munich, he won the German championship in 2020 and 2021. The Catalan season under Flick has only one flaw: the premature end in the European master class. In the semi-finals of the Champions League, his team had delivered two spectacular duels with Bayern conquerors Inter Milan and had left after a 3: 3 and 3: 4 after extra time.
Flick had taken over the club last year as the successor to Xavi and convinced critics with his work and the good results. His contract extension by 2026 should already be fixed orally. According to Hennes Weisweiler and Udo Lattek, he is the third German coach at FC Barcelona.
