Inflation in the Netherlands decreased somewhat in February compared to a month earlier. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) based on the calculation method used in Europe. According to the statistical office, the increase in the general price level last month was 7.2 percent compared to a year ago. In January inflation was still 7.6 percent.

Despite the decrease, prices have been rising sharply for some time. This is partly due to the rapid economic recovery from the corona crisis, which has led to shortages of certain materials. Higher food and energy prices are also causing inflation to rise sharply. Prices are expected to rise further as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Next week, Statistics Netherlands will release Dutch inflation according to its own calculation method. It is usually slightly lower and stood at 6.4 percent in January.
