Gille will be represented by assistant coach Erick Mathé in the remaining main round games of the record world champions against Iceland, Montenegro and Denmark. France is still unbeaten in the tournament and, as leaders in Group I, has a good chance of reaching the semi-finals.
Denmark’s Lindberg also infected
Even the Danes cannot avoid corona infections at the European Championship. Bundesliga oldie Hans Lindberg from Füchsen Berlin has tested positive for the corona virus. The 40-year-old winger is now in isolation in the Danish EM camp after the positive PCR test, as his association announced.
The day before, Lindberg had played his 275th match in red and white in world champion Denmark’s 28:24 victory against Iceland, which was affected by several corona cases. Next, the Danes, coached by former Bundesliga coach Nikolaj Jacobsen, play against Croatia on Saturday night.
A few days ago, Denmark’s goalkeeper Jannick Green from Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg tested positive again after a corona infection that was actually believed to be over. A week ago, Lindberg replaced the injured Johan Hansen (TSV Hannover-Burgdorf) in the team.
