Corona and suspension force Real Madrid to improvise

Madrid (AP) – Real coach Carlo Ancelotti faces a difficult task ahead of the away game against Athletic Bilbao.

After six Madrid players tested positive for the corona virus, Casemiro saw another yellow card in the 0-0 win against Cádiz and is suspended for Wednesday’s game in the Basque Country. This weakens the midfield in the team around ex-national player Toni Kroos, where Luka Modric is missing, who, according to the club, feels uncomfortable because of Corona.

In addition, Modric, like the other infected people, is not allowed to play again anyway because of the stricter Corona requirements in the Basque Country, wrote the Spanish sports newspaper “As” on Tuesday. In the Basque Country, with a seven-day incidence of 639, everyone must be in self-isolation for ten days from the onset of symptoms. Unlike in Madrid, this also applies if the PCR tests turn out negative in the meantime. At Modric, the ten-day self-isolation does not end until Thursday.

On Sunday, relegation candidate Cádiz ended Real’s winning streak with a draw. The game against the bottom of the table Bilbao will be “very difficult”, Ancelotti admitted. Real are at the top of the Primera División table by six points ahead of Sevilla FC, who have one game less.
