The fire brigade in Assen broke out this afternoon for a cormorant in trouble. At the Asserwijk, a passer -by discovered the bird that was entangled in fishing wire.
The animal ambulance was called in, but the animal care providers were unable to reach the cormorant. The fire brigade therefore came to the rescue and the firefighters went into the water in waders and managed to get the animal to the side.
The fishing wire was cut loose with a knife, then the bird was transferred to the people of the animal ambulance who took the cormorant for further care.
