In the “coming months” the first NFTs from Getty Images will be published. This was announced by the agency for royalty-free images in a press release in mid-May. For entry into the NFT business, Getty Images is cooperating exclusively with Candy Digital, which has so far mainly worked with clients from the sports industry – including Race Team Alliance, Major League Baseball and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Both partners are satisfied with the new cooperation

We’re proud to partner with Candy Digital to bring our offering to the fast growing global NFT collectors[Community] to expand. This represents a great opportunity for the company and our photographers around the world.” With these words, Craig Peters, CEO of Getty Images, is quoted in the press release from mid-May.
According to the press release, Candy Digital is also happy about the new cooperation. CEO Scott Lawin said it’s an exciting move – the company, founded in 2014, is now expanding beyond sports for the first time and has the opportunity to establish itself in the world of digital entertainment, arts and culture.

Getty Images’ NFTs are said to be minted on the Palm blockchain, which the image agency is promoting as Ethereum-compatible and particularly environmentally friendly. How expensive an NFT will be has not yet been determined. But one thing is clear: the cooperation is geared towards the longer term, so there will probably be a whole series of NFTs. The Getty Images library says it has over 465 million images, including 135 analogue works from the archive and rare images by legendary photographers. Many works have never been accessible to the public.
