Controversial video evidence: Braunschweig scores outnumbered at KSC

As of: 04/01/2023 4:51 p.m

Eintracht Braunschweig has missed the second win in a row in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. In the end it was 1-1 (0-1) at Karlsruher SC after a 1-0 win against Hannover 96 in the derby.

Lion Lauberbach (4th minute) scored the early opening goal for Eintracht, Leon Jensen (69th) equalized in front of 19,203 spectators. Braunschweig’s distance to relegation place 16 and the first relegation rank is only one point.

The guests also lost goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzic to a yellow-red card for complaining (69th). The KSC was able to avert the second defeat in a row and is placed in the middle of the table.

Foul by Braunschweig’s Hennig?

The guests started briskly and used Lauberbach’s far too passive defensive behavior early on: In the 30th minute, Fabio Kaufmann had a great chance to make it 2-0 on his foot. He tried to play around KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck on a quick counterattack, but the latter tipped the ball off his foot at the last moment.

KSC was lucky after an hour because Maurice Multhaup’s goal to make it 2-0 for Braunschweig was taken back after video evidence. Referee Florian Lechner rated Bryan Hennig’s entry against Karlsruhe’s Philip Heise as a foul – a controversial decision.

The hosts then controlled what happened, but rarely scored decisive goals on the offensive. Only Jensen scored, it was his third goal in three games in a row. The Braunschweigers always remained dangerous with their occasional counterattacks, but were no longer able to convert the longed-for victory.

Braunschweig versus Kaiserslautern

On Matchday 27, Braunschweig will be fighting Kaiserslautern at home for important points in the relegation battle (Saturday, April 8th, 2023 at 1 p.m.). The KSC is required at the same time in Nuremberg.
