The plan that is controversial to prisoners within the government coalition to release prisoners two weeks earlier two weeks earlier, seems to be gone for the time being. Sources at the Ministry of Justice and Security confirm NRC That State Secretary Ingrid Coenradie (PVV), after a heated conversation with PVV leader Geert Wilders on Thursday evening, is now looking at the accommodation of prisoners in the judicial complex Schiphol complex.

Consequences for asylum shelter
Last Wednesday, Coenradie wrote to the House of Representatives that she should have decided as a ’emergency valve’ to the ‘rotten measure’ to always release prisoners three days earlier, and that she would investigate whether that even had to be fourteen days. Within the right -wing government coalitions, this led to angry reactions, especially at PVV and VVD.
The fact that prisoners must now be detained in the Schiphol judicial complex has consequences for another PVV minister: Marjolein Faber (asylum and migration). In the asylum compromise that the coalition closed this fall, it was agreed that up to a hundred extra cells would be set up for the reception of foreigners at Schiphol. Now that 45 cells go to prisoners, this means less reception capacity for asylum minister Faber.
