According to BnnVara, Khalid Kasem was the new Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, but his talk show Khalid & Sophie did not last long due to all kinds of scandals. How is he doing now? “Very good!”
The intention was for Khalid & Sophie to become the new De Wereld Draait Door, but that talk show was a drama. Not only because Sophie Hilbrand obviously has no talent for these types of programs, but also because the viewer had no feeling whatsoever about Khalid Kasem. From nowhere he was bombed into the new NPO star.
Khalid under fire
Khalid eventually had to leave due to a mega scandal and that’s how the viewer got rid of him. “So it was a blessing in disguise for BnnVara that he came under fire because of a secret tape that was made during a conversation he had with Peter R. de Vries and his son Royce,” says Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden.
He continues at the desk Show news: “It was said that Khalid had wanted to bribe an official within that practice. That caused a shock and the end for him on the talk show. Later it also became clear that he had gone to school with Taghi and knew him.”
On the road with Hanslers
Nowadays Khalid does things at D-reizen and is involved with Monique Hansler’s TV family. “It’s always funny that people like that always manage to arrange things for themselves one way or another,” says celebrity expert Bart Ettekoven.
Monique was at some holiday fair this week and was interviewed by… Khalid. “I’m doing very well,” he tells reporter Thom Goderie. “You see: I get to do great things at a great company and it was great fun to talk about Spain with the Hansler family.”
Co-producer
Khalid is very happy with the success of the Hansler soap. “I have been co-producing from the start, so I was allowed to make the series as a co-producer, and if there is a season two, then it is of course logical that I remain involved in that role.”
Will he be back on TV? “It’s not so much my ambition. I do some things behind the scenes, as you see with De Hanslers. I have a fun and challenging role in the company where I work, so there isn’t much time to think about another TV career, but I will undoubtedly always do something somewhere in the sidelines, I think.”
Call Sophie
Does he ever speak to Sophie? “Definitely. Yes, Sophie is really my buddy. We started Khalid & Sophie together, an incredibly beautiful bond, but actually with a lot of people from the team with whom we made that talk show.”
He continues: “These are people I have close to my heart. Every now and then we have a nice meal and call. That will always remain a special bond.”
Bitter
So Khalid is not bitter. “I thought it was a great adventure. I came to that stage from the legal profession to have conversations with people and I learned an incredible amount there. It was valuable and it gave me a lot. I will always be grateful for the time I experienced there.”
Critical questions about all the scandals surrounding Khalid remain unanswered. That clearly went over reporter Thom Goderie’s head. And besides, it had to remain fun.
