After sports director Andreas Schicker and sports director Paul Pajduch, TSG Hoffenheim is now extending the long-term contract with head coach Christian Ilzer.
Bundesliga soccer team TSG Hoffenheim and head coach Christian Ilzer are continuing their collaboration: The 48-year-old is extending his contract with the Kraichgauer team, which runs until 2027, as the club announced on Friday afternoon. The TSG did not provide any information on how long Ilzer should stay in Kraichgau.
TSG sports director Andreas Schicker: “Ilzer stands for a modern leadership culture”
The Austrian took over the head coach position at TSG in November 2024 and transformed the club from a relegation candidate to a European Cup participant. Under Ilzer’s leadership, TSG achieved the second-best points total in Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga history with 61 points last season and thus secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League.
“Chris Ilzer has done an outstanding job and taken our team to a new level in terms of sport. He stands for a clear idea of football, high intensity and a modern leadership culture,” said Andreas Schicker, Managing Director of Sport at TSG Hoffenheim in a club press release on Friday afternoon.
Hoffenheim head coach Christian Ilzer: “I’m looking forward to returning to Europe”
Christian Ilzer is also looking forward to the next few years: “The club offers excellent conditions and is pursuing ambitious goals. The most recent season has shown that the path we have chosen is the right one. I am already looking forward to the new challenges of the coming season, including the return to Europe.”
Under Ilzer’s leadership, TSG finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season and narrowly missed out on making it into the Champions League. The Austrian most recently worked as head coach at Sturm Graz, with whom he won the championship and ÖFB Cup double in the 2023/24 season. Christian Ilzer moved to TSG in November 2024 and followed Andreas Schicker to Kraichgau.
