Travis Kelce’s future remains open with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. Now head coach Andy Reid has given an update.
Reid didn’t comment on Kelce at a remote news conference, but said, “There is communication.”
Reid continued, “That’s the main thing. I’ve said it before: As long as we’re talking, I’m okay with it. That means you want to move things forward. I think Travis is at that point too.”
Immediately after the end of the season, Kelce said that he was unsure what would happen next for him. However, he promised to make a decision by early March, before the start of free agency, which officially begins on March 11th.

“I don’t want to put anything in his mouth at all and I’m trying to give him his space here,” Reid added. “He’s been doing this for a long time and can sort it all out for himself as it goes along. But we’ll continue on that basis for now.”
Kelce appeared in public several times after the Chiefs’ season ended, including before the Super Bowl in San Francisco. But he didn’t talk about his future. Several of his teammates said they expect the 36-year-old to have another season, including Patrick Mahomes, who is currently working on his comeback from a torn ACL suffered last season.
Kelce had spoken positively about offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s return in his “New Heights” podcast: “It’s great. I can’t wait to see him back in the building. He’s one of my absolute favorite coaches. I had so many incredible moments under him as a player that made me grow.”
Many fans had almost taken this as confirmation that Kelce’s career would continue with the Chiefs, although that may not mean much.
Kelce originally came to the NFL as a third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2013 and has since broken almost all of the franchise’s relevant receiving records. 2026 would be his 14th season in the league.
