BONN (dpa-AFX) – People in Germany are drinking more mineral water. The approximately 150 mineral fountains nationwide sold almost 10.2 billion liters of mineral water and medicinal water in 2025. This was reported by the Association of German Mineral Wells (VDM) according to preliminary data. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 2.4 percent. The calculated per capita consumption increased from 125.6 to 128.8 liters.
According to the association, flavored mineral water has recently been extremely popular. Sales increased by 18 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. Still mineral water also recorded above-average growth (6.1 percent). In Germany, however, mineral water with a lot or a little carbonation is most often used. The two variants together account for a sales share of more than 70 percent.
The industry association said the reason for the increase was that many consumers were paying attention to a healthy lifestyle. Mineral water consumption had already increased slightly in 2024. Nevertheless, it is still below the level before the corona pandemic. In 2019, per capita consumption was 139.7 liters.
