Archaeologists often make discoveries during work in the capital, but these human remains – including two skulls and bones – have been very well preserved. It would be about the remains of a boy between 10 and 15 years old. According to the Austrian newspaper of the Standard, remains of a second mummy have also been found in the same neighborhood: it would be a woman about 20 to 30 years old. The human remains are about 1000 years old.

“Archaeological remains, in particular burial gifts, graves and mummified individuals, are often found along the Peruvian coast, but also in Lima,” explains Pieter van Dalen of the College of Archaeologists of Peru.
He further explains: “Mummies are often mummified naturally, for example in desert areas where heat dries out the skin. Sometimes they were also mummified for cultural reasons, usually sitting with their hands in front of their faces.”

Still dark brown hair
According to Jose Aliaga, archaeologist at the Cálidda company, the woman who was found sitting with her arms and legs bent and wrapped in a cloth, still dark brown hair. “We have found remains and evidence that indicate that it could be a Spanish funeral.” The Spaniards arrived in Lima in 1355.
