Have you seen them yet: two white lit Christmas trees overlooking the entire city. The construction workers working on the Christuslaan have made the Christmas trees themselves to brighten things up a bit.

On the Christuslaan behind the Stadshart, Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid West and Ter Steege Bouw Vastgoed Delft bv are building an apartment building of 70 meters high with 230 apartments for young people and transfer students. The new construction project is known as Cadenza II / Sam Wonen.
Feels like home
The construction of Cadenza II will take about two years. That is why this construction site is a kind of second home for the people who work there every day. Because of the holidays, the employees brightened up the construction site a bit. Construction site manager Sebastiaan Bos says: “During construction we regularly use light hoses to illuminate dark workplaces or the construction site. This year we thought of making two Christmas trees.”
Light tube of two hundred meters
They made a metal frame in the shape of a Christmas tree with a light tube of two hundred meters around it. “The crane operator lifted the metal boom. We then attached the light tree to the mast.” With a second rope of light, they once again created a Christmas tree for the highest floors of the building built so far. “We secured this tree with tie wraps so that it hangs firmly on the outside of the complex.”

Coziness and landmark

Christmas tree seller John stands every year with his Christmas TreeThuis stall on the Christuslaan. The stall is now gone, but during his presence he thoroughly enjoyed the illuminated Christmas trees on the construction site. At the time he said: “People can see the illuminated trees from all over the city. For me, the trees provide a kind of landmark for my stall. This way customers can easily find my Christmas tree stable. And I think it’s a nice sight.”
Leave it on
Sebastiaan and his colleagues will soon be absent for two weeks because then it will be the Christmas holidays. Dura Vermeer’s construction site manager is unsure whether to let the Christmas trees burn. “I have heard few reactions from local residents. Maybe they experience too much light in the evening, so maybe I just let them out.” To which the editors of indebuurt say that the Christmas trees are very nice for such a bare construction site. “Okay,” says Sebastiaan, “you have convinced me. I will let them burn until January 6.”
