Circular and sustainable construction is, just like during Expo 2020 Dubai, an important starting point in the design and implementation of the Dutch pavilion. Architectural firm RAU is an international leader and pioneer in the field of circular buildings and architecture. Reuse of materials and raw materials is central to RAU’s philosophy. Tellart, an international experience design studio specializing in immersive storytelling and emerging technologies, brings extensive experience in creating visitor experiences for World Expos. Ingenieursbureau DGMR specializes in solutions for a safe, sustainable and healthy living environment. The collaboration with Japanese construction company Asanuma ensures a strong Japanese network, the necessary experience with building in Osaka and knowledge of local requirements.

“With the winning design, we will soon be showing visitors to the Expo in Osaka our innovative solutions that we can offer in areas such as the energy transition and climate change,” says Liesje Schreinemacher, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

“Japan has great ambitions in this area and is watching with great interest the rapid transition that the Netherlands is going through in this area. This pavilion offers a beautiful stage where visitors can become acquainted with our innovations and technology in an inspiring way.”

The choice for this consortium follows from a European tender from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) for the design, construction, maintenance and completion of the Dutch pavilion. A total of 12 proposals were submitted. In addition to the award of the contract, a fee will be paid to the other valid tenders.

Before the summer of 2023, the European tender for the operation of the pavilion will be published on tenderned.nl. There are also opportunities for companies, knowledge institutions and cultural organizations to participate in the programming and/or sponsorship prior to and during Expo 2025 Osaka. More information will be made available during the presentation of the design of the Dutch pavilion on June 5, 2023, both in the Netherlands and Japan.

The Expo Osaka will take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The organization expects to receive approximately 28 million business and private visitors, of which approximately 90% of the visitors will come from Japan. This edition has the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’ and will be about shaping a world where major crises around climate and health, for example, will determine the quality of life.
