Milano, 21 Oct. (askanews) – Any sexual act without explicit consent is considered rape. This is sanctioned by the Istanbul Convention, ratified by Italy in 2013. And it is true the principle of “consent”, completely absent in the Italian penal codethe cornerstone of the #IoLoChiedo campaign, launched by Amnesty International Italia with a declared objective: to urge adequate legislative reform that recognizes the principle of consent in the definition of the crime of sexual violence.
«In Europe one in three women has suffered sexual or physical violence at least once in their life. One in five from a partner or family member. Only one in eight reported. These data tell us about a society that still sees women with an object, a property at someone’s disposal – says Ilaria Masinara, Head of the Campaigns Office of Amnesty International Italy -. Amnesty International is at the forefront calling for legislative changewith the adaptation of the penal code, and cultural, putting the culture of consensus at the center.”
Reaffirm the fundamental principle that each person is the master of their own body and can decide in total freedom how to manage itis not only a regulatory challenge, but above all a cultural one: thus Amnesty International Italia – in collaboration with Redu and the other partners of the #IoLoChiedo campaign, has developed a teaching guide, intended for teachers and educatorsto address the issues of consent and respect in relationships in class. A battle for the protection of women’s rights to which each of us can make our own contribution by making a bequest to Amnesty International Italia.
«Amnesty International is an organization made up of people for people with a common objective: to defend human rights, always and everywhere, to fight against injustice, to protect those who are victims of it. To continue doing this, we need help from all of you. Make a bequest to Amnesty International – is the appeal launched by Marisa Laurito, spokesperson for Amnesty International -. Who will fight in your place when you are no longer here? Always you, with the same passion.”
“Your help with a legacy allows us to build a better future together – underlines the Head of the Campaigns Office of Amnesty International Italy -: a future that speaks to us of gender justice and social justice”.
