Congratulations are pouring in for Wiegman and team | Football

Wiegman (52) is the first national coach to win the European Championship for women with two different countries. Five years ago she led the Orange squad to the title at the European Championship in her own country, now she also did the same with England.

None other than Queen Elizabeth was there to congratulate Wiegman’s team. “My warmest congratulations, and those from my family, go to all of you for winning the European Championship.”

Various English football clubs congratulated the football players via social media. The necessary congratulations also came from Formula 1, including from the British teams Williams and Aston Martin.

The English former top footballer Gary Lineker came after the European Championship final, which England won 2-1 after extra time against Germany, with a variant of a famous statement from him. “Football is a simple game. 22 Women run after the ball for 90 minutes and in the end England win. Fabulous!” Lineker wrote on Twitter. England men’s team captain Harry Kane also responded. “Unreal images at Wembley! Congratulations, wonderful Lionesses!”

“An incredible achievement by Sarina Wiegman to win the European Championship twice in a row, fantastic,” said football coach Mark Wotte. Vera Pauw, former national coach of the Dutch football players and now working for Ireland, also congratulated England via Twitter. “Giant! An example for the world!”, says Pauw.
