Concert Stones in ArenA canceled after positive corona test Jagger Inland

According to the concert organizer there will be a new date. Tickets purchased for the show remain valid.

Jagger only discovered that he had corona when he had already arrived at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The 78-year-old singer had some symptoms and then tested positive, the band said in a statement on Instagram. It is probably mild complaints.

The Stones regret that the concert cannot take place. “But the safety of the public, the fellow musicians and the touring crew is more important,” the band said. The show was canceled just hours before the start on Monday. Some fans were already in the stadium.

Jagger says he wants to return to Amsterdam “as soon as possible” to give the concert.

The Monday evening concert, which has now been canceled, is part of the European SIXTY tour, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of The Rolling Stones. It would be the first time in five years that the British band would perform in the Netherlands again.

New date

However, the band has room in the agenda for a short-term catch-up show. When choosing a new date, a number of things play a role. First of all, of course, there is the nature of the contamination. The band will play in Bern, Switzerland next Friday, but then frontman Mick must be fully fit again. A show in Milan is scheduled for Tuesday 21 June.

The tour schedule in Europe consists of fourteen shows; seven in June and seven in July. Amsterdam was fourth. The band has already completed performances in Madrid, Munich and Liverpool. The schedule is always structured in such a way that there are three days between shows.

weeks off

At the end of June, after the performance on Saturday 25 June in London, the band members have a week off. The tour will not continue in London until Sunday 3 July. If only the performance in Amsterdam has to be made up, that could be done during the free week.

However, there is another possibility. After July 3, the next show won’t be scheduled until Monday, July 11. Then The Rolling Stones can be seen in Brussels. If the band wants to maintain the rhythm of three days of rest between two shows, Amsterdam can be scheduled in that week.

Hooks and eyes

The two options ensure that the tour can end as planned on Sunday 31 July in Stockholm. There are of course hooks and eyes to both options. Is Amsterdam the only show that needs to be overtaken and is it logistically possible to arrange a performance at such short notice? Sensation will take place on 2 July in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. While there will of course be a lot of building work for the dance event, a Stones concert on Tuesday or Wednesday should be possible. After Sensation, it will take until July 14 for another event in the Johan Cruijff Arena; the two concerts of Ed Sheeran. After the performance in Madrid, the Stones can visit Amsterdam that week, without getting in Sheeran’s way.

It is of course also possible that the Stones are not so concerned that they have to make up for one or more concerts in August or even September. It is true that the football season has started and Ajax plays home matches again. Sometimes also during the week because of the Champions League. A match of the Dutch national team is scheduled for September 25.
