Concerns at PSV and RKC about injuries to strong holders

The press conferences after PSV – RKC resembled doctor’s office hours. Both teams saw strong players drop out. There was actually very little about the game. Roger Schmidt called it an ‘almost perfect afternoon’, while Joseph Oosting had expected more from his team.

It was an easy afternoon for PSV. In between Leicester’s two clashes, RKC had no problems. “It was an easy afternoon afterwards,” said Roger Schmidt afterwards. It starts with the right attitude and that was good. I appreciate how the players played today. It was almost a perfect day.”

With the word almost, the German coach was referring to the injuries of Olivier Boscagli and Noni Madueke. The French defender doesn’t seem to have anything serious, the English attacker, on the other hand, seems to be missing the important games next week. “He has a muscle injury. It doesn’t seem like everything will be over tomorrow. He might miss next week.”

Today PSV’s basic team had many players who normally don’t play much. One of them was Marco van Ginkel. “I was happy to be able to play again,” said the midfielder afterwards. “You can see that we have more than eleven players. It’s nice that we continue the good feeling with this victory.”

At RKC they certainly did not have a good feeling after this match. “I expected more from my team”, said Joseph Oosting. “I had hoped for fiercer duels. The absolute poison to win here was missing. Maybe my team had too much respect for PSV.”

The trainer found it difficult to indicate what was the problem. “I don’t know what caused it. We have done well against top teams this season. So this is an incident.”

Finally, there were also concerns at RKC about injuries. Jens Odgaard was injured. The star player of the Waalwijkers cannot be missed, but Oosting still fears for the attacker. “We don’t know exactly what’s going on yet. It’s either dislocated shoulder or something with his collarbone. He is now at the hospital. We are waiting.”
