Labor market economists do not have a good word for complaints from retailers that the survival of stores is threatened if the minimum youth wage is increased, as the government intends. In 2027 the minimum wages of young people up to 21 years of age will increase by an average of 20%. “You would only be young in the Dutch labor market,” says labor economist at Ton Wilthagen University.
