FC Emmen’s competitors in the battle for survival in the premier league took points on Saturday evening.
FC Volendam took a big step towards a longer stay in the Eredivisie by winning 2-1 against Sparta in stoppage time. Xavier Mbuyamba scored both goals for Volendam.
Excelsior took a point against sc Heerenveen in Friesland. The team from Rotterdam had the most chances in the Abe Lenstra stadium, but no goals were scored: 0-0.
Volendam rose to thirteenth place with 33 points, Excelsior to fifteenth with 29 points. FC Emmen, which is sixteenth with 28 points, will play against AZ on Sunday.
At the end of the season, the number 16 will play in the play-offs against clubs from the first division for a place in the premier league.
