South African swimming star Chad le Clos won his 18th Commonwealth Games medal on Sunday, tying the all-time record.

The 30-year-old won the silver medal in the 200m butterfly in Birmingham. In 2012 he won Olympic gold over this distance in London ahead of swimming legend Michael Phelps.

With his 18 medals – 7x gold, 4x silver and 7x bronze – the four-time world champion drew level with sport shooters Michael Gault (Great Britain) and Phillip Adams (Australia).

Le Clos, who canceled his participation in the World Championships in Budapest in June, was only beaten by New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt (1:55.60 min) in the Sandwell Aquatic Center with a time of 1:55.89 minutes. Bronze went to England’s James Guy.
