To keep the hum and buzz of Airbussen and Boeings as much as possible, several measures are being taken. The building is built ‘sound adaptive, isolated and well positioned’, the municipality states in a press release sent yesterday.
Mix of homes, sports, catering, shops and offices
In addition to student residences and short stay-stays, there must also be sports and catering facilities, medical facilities, shops and offices. The connection with the campus of the adjacent Uilenstede is also being improved.
Living alderman Floor Gordon cannot wait for the area to be taken care of. “A new heart for the Kronenburg district will contribute enormously to the liveability of the entire Kronenburg and Uilenstede area. If we do nothing, the deterioration will only increase.”
Krakenburg
Amstelveen strives to start the development of the area in 2026. By that time, the squatters, who have occupied the area as a protest against the housing shortage and have started a residential community, will have to take their bags. “And if we have to leave, we can take many things with us,” one of the residents told NH last year.
