Comes from 1. FC Köln: Matthias Heidrich takes over as sporting director at Erzgebirge Aue

Ex-professional returns to “Violet”.

Former professional Matthias Heidrich returns to FC Erzgebirge Aue as sporting director. The third division team announced this on Wednesday. The 44-year-old, who played 151 games for the “Veilchen” when he was active, comes from 1. FC Köln, where he previously worked for four years as head of the youth department.

Most recently, Helge Leonhardt resigned as president of the club, two days later the bottom of the table parted ways with coach Timo Rost as a reaction to the sporting downturn. Aue has taken three points from nine games so far. Heidrich’s first task will now be to find a new head coach.

As Heidrich’s previous employer announced, the Cologne-based company gave the ex-professional permission to change and thus corresponded to his request. “Matthias helped shape a very successful time in our NLZ together with Carsten Schiel. Now, at short notice, he has the opportunity to take on an attractive challenge with sporting responsibility in professional football. Not only will he return to his former club, but he will also be able to combine family and work even better in the future. We wish him a lot of joy and every success in his new role,” said sporting director Christian Keller. “Effzeh” will decide “quietly” on a successor in the coming weeks, until Schiel, head of youth development, takes over the management of the youth academy in close coordination with Keller.
