Lahti (dpa) – Norway’s combined athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber has clinched his first victory after his corona infection at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The world champion prevailed in Lahti after a large hill jump and the following ten-kilometer run and won ahead of German Vinzenz Geiger and Austria’s yellow card holder Johannes Lamparter. Riiber had tested positive for the virus in Beijing and was forced to travel home without a medal after showing unusual weaknesses in his only start.

Lamparter and Riiber will also fight for victory in the overall World Cup in the remaining four individual races. The Austrian’s cushion is currently 107 points. Behind individual Olympic champion Geiger, Johannes Rydzek (5th) and Manuel Faißt (8th) also made it into the top ten. In the team sprint on Saturday, the two German teams Geiger/Rydzek and Faißt/Terence Weber finished fourth and fifth.
