The trend is slowly blowing over from the US to the Netherlands: rising interest rates. And I hold my heart. Can consumers afford a higher interest rate? In recent years we have become quite spoiled. Since the credit crisis, central banks have used ultra-low interest rates to stimulate the economy. That has worked, but is no longer tenable under the current circumstances. Interest rate hikes hang over us like the sword of Damocles.
