Cologne on your chest, BVB on your mind: It hardly seemed possible, but Luca Kilian’s second Bundesliga goal was even more extraordinary than the first.
“Really awesome,” said the defender from Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln after his opening goal in the 3-1 win against FC Schalke 04: “It was a special goal that made me particularly happy. I think you saw that too. Greetings to Dortmund!”
The background: Kilian grew up in Dortmund and was trained at Borussia Dortmund. Games against arch-rivals Schalke are therefore very special for him. In general, he saves his rare Bundesliga goals for special games. In April he scored the winning goal in a 3-2 win against FSV Mainz 05, from whom he was only on loan to Cologne at the time. “If I could have imagined it like that, I really would have painted it the same way,” said Kilian.
In April, after the 22-year-old’s first goal, coach Steffen Baumgart had to invite the entire team to dinner and commented ironically with the words: “For me, he’s still a wooden foot.” This time there was no bet between player and coach. “I don’t think he would have thought that I would do a second one so quickly,” said Kilian, laughing.
