Collection Brands is aiming for the start of new construction next spring

If all goes well, visitors to Museum Collection Brands in Nieuw-Dordrecht will enter the Southeast Drenthe attraction very differently by the end of 2023. The exhibition space is expanded with an eye-catching glass corridor.

For something delicious to eat and drink you can visit the brand new restaurant in the shape of a classic coffee grinder. After a year of delay, chairman Hank Peters expects to be able to plant the long-awaited shovel in the ground next spring.

Plans for the expansion were already announced last year. The enlargement is intended to give the museum’s attraction value a helping hand. In addition to renovation and new construction, Collection Brands will also focus on virtual reality or augmented reality.

An innovative technology that will soon enable visitors to almost literally step into the past. The permit application has now been submitted. Peters, who announced the news during a symposium on the tenth anniversary of Collection Brands, is confident that the intervention will start in time.

The museum wants to grow to ten thousand visitors a year and the expansion plans are intended, among other things, to achieve that goal. “But then came corona”, sighs Peters. The museum attracted only 1,200 visitors in 2021. “An absolute low point in our existence.”

For this year, the counter shows an upward trend again. “We’re heading for about 3,500 people,” he estimates. “We have to rebuild it all again.”
