The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) warns of thunderstorms that will pass over the country on Tuesday. Code yellow was issued for a large part of the country before the end of the afternoon and a large part of the evening.

According to the weather institute, the thunderstorms are moving from the southwest to the northeast. Wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour can occur. “Later in the evening most showers disappear again,” according to the KNMI.

Busy rush hour
Rijkswaterstaat expects a busy evening rush hour on Tuesday, partly due to the weather conditions. This is based on a maximum of 400 kilometers of traffic jams on the highways.

Exception
The warning code does not apply to the provinces of Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and the Wadden Islands.
