While the KNMI warns of thunderstorms, gusts of wind and precipitation between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, stormy weather is expected earlier. RTV Drenthe weatherwoman Greta Spannenburg said on the radio around noon that we can expect two zones with showers that will pass over.
“The weather situations have been complex for a few days. I initially issued the warning myself in the late afternoon,” says Spannenburg. “But because what you see happening now is of a different caliber, I would actually like to bring the warning forward a little.”
According to her, a lot of rain has already fallen here and there in the country, and it is already thundering in Overijssel. The weather woman thinks this has to do with the warm air. “We initially thought that there would be no thunderstorms in our area at the beginning of the afternoon. But I have the feeling that if the shower zone passes, thunderstorms may also occur.”
Spannenburg expects that the showers with thunder will have passed around 2:30 p.m. “Then it will be a bit cooler and we will have to wait for the next line of showers. I expect them somewhere around the evening from the southwest. I think that part of the intensity will already be used up in the next few hours, because it is much warmer now than later.”
Between the showers there is a dry zone where the sun can also peek around the corner, according to Spannenburg. The thunderstorms leave the northeast of the country in the first half of the evening. Then it becomes calmer and cools down to about 13 degrees at night.
Code yellow is in force this afternoon in almost all of the Netherlands. The KNMI has not issued a weather warning only in Zeeland. Tomorrow it will be a bit cooler again. The weather woman states that a strong wind in particular will cause the feeling to be different.
