Code red due to storm Poly in the Netherlands: hundreds of flights at Schiphol canceled, train traffic is halted | Abroad

The Dutch RMI has declared code red in several provinces due to heavy gusts of wind from storm Poly. That is the strongest weather alert the institute can issue. Hundreds of flights are canceled at Schiphol airport. Train traffic in North Holland and Flevoland will be shut down. Drivers are advised not to go on the road if they don’t have to. In Flanders, code yellow is extended to 13 hours.

Code red applies in the Netherlands in the northwest of the country. In concrete terms, this concerns the provinces of North Holland, Flevoland, Friesland and the IJsselmeer area. Very strong gusts of wind can occur from 100 to 120 kilometers per hour.

More than 300 flights have already been canceled at Schiphol. However, a spokeswoman said that number could increase.

Train traffic around Amersfoort and Zwolle will also be halted from 09:30. It is not known how long the situation will last.
