Coco Gauff is in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. The 18-year-old American defeated her compatriot Sloane Stephens 7-5, 6-2 on Tuesday.
“I’m so happy and can hardly find words. Up until last year, I might have tried too hard to live up to the expectations of others,” said Gauff: “It’s much more about enjoying life.”
Gauff convinced with her aggressive style of play and did not lose a set in the course of the tournament. The last teenager to win Roland Garros was the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek 2020.
